A Monopropellant Milli-Newton Thruster System for Attitude Control of Nanosatellites

چکیده

Work is progressing on monopropellant thrusters for use as an attitude control system for nanosatellites (satellites whose mass is under 10 kilograms). The thrust range for these microthrusters is on the order of millinewtons. Systems using both hydrazine and hydrogen peroxide are being developed which will offer higher performance than currently available thrusters for nanosatellites. Complete thruster systems using both propellant combinations have been built and are undergoing evaluation. Hot firings are currently being conducted. The microthruster system will be tested on an upcoming nanosatellite to be launched at the end of this year. These thrusters will offer an inexpensive, high performance option for attitude control for nanosatellites or fine pointing control for small satellites.

Preliminary Development of a Hydrogen Peroxide Thruster

Green propellants used for satellite-level propulsion system become attractive in recent years because the non-toxicity and lower requirements of safety protection. One of the green propellants, high-concentration hydrogen peroxide H2O2 solution (≥70% w/w, weight concentration percentage), often known as high-test peroxide (HTP), is considered because it is ITAR-free, easy to manufacture and th...

Assessment of High-Power Electric Multi-Mode Spacecraft Propulsion Concepts

Multi-mode spacecraft propulsion systems utilizing a chemical monopropellant or bipropellant thruster and high-power electric Hall, arcjet, or pulsed inductive thruster were analyzed and compared in terms of mission capabilities. These systems are most effective compared to an all-chemical system when greater than 25% of the total delta-V is accomplished by the electric system due to the high m...

Laser applications overview: The state of the art and the future trend in the United States

To be commercially useful, laser applications take advantage of the special properties of laser light, such as monochromaticity, high brightness, high pulse energy or intensity, wavelength range from soft xray to far infrared and pulse duration from femtoseconds to CW. This paper is divided into four sections: (a) summary of the theory of laser-materials interactions (b) macroscopic application...
